 An EMR certification validates skills for immediate, life-saving care CPR, bleeding control, airway management) until EMT"s or Paramedics arrive. 

The AEO course gives participants the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to a victim of a breathing emergency using breathing devices, including resuscitation masks, bag-valve-mask resuscitators (BVMs) and emergency oxygen.

The WSAR - Awareness Level course is an entry level course where searchers learn to recognize SAR incidents, understand basic terminology, know when to call for help, focusing on safety and support operations without performing technical rescues. 

Prerequisites 

• The skills for this level are:
  • Basic First Aid and CPR
  • IS-100c - Intro to the Incident Command System (ICS) 
  • IS-700b - Intro to the National Incident Management System
  • PA PSFA Hazardous Materials Awareness 2025
  • Helicopters in SAR - Basic

Candidates at the Wilderness Search and Rescue - Operations Level shall be able to identify potential missing person incidents, recognize hazards, and understand basic search patterns (like hasty or grid searches). 

Prerequisites  

• The skills required at this level are:
  • Basic first aid and CPR
  • Land navigation (map, compass and GPS)
  • SAR concepts
  • IS-200c - Incident Command System (ICS) for Initial Response
  • IS-800d - Intro to the National Response Framework
  • GPS - Basic Endorsement 
  • Crime Scene Preservation

Candidates at the Wilderness Search and Rescue - Technician Level shall have practical knowledge of search techniques including hasty searches, grid searches for evidence or clues, ground searches, and aerial searches. Candidates must have basic knowledge of rescue and recovery operations including the ability to provide emergency medical treatment. Body Substance Isolation (BSI) protocols and precautions are mandatory to prevent exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Candidates shall have knowledge 

This is a 40 hour search management course. Topics include: Changing Concepts, Legal Issues, Resources, Search Urgency, Incident Command System and Forms, The Bike Wheel Model, Reflex Tasks, Clues, Briefing and Debriefing.
